Frequently Asked Questions
Q.
What are the Miss Dacula Pageants?
A.
The Sole fundraiser for the Dacula High School PTSA. The Miss Dacula Pageants are a series of pageants where contestants compete for the opportunity to represent the City of Dacula for a year through public appearances, community service and volunteerism. Each year we hold the pageants in order to find young ladies to represent their peers in elementary, middle and high school age divisions.

Q.
Where does the money go?
A.
All proceeds from the Miss Dacula Pageants go to the Dacula High School PTSA. Monies received go into parent, teacher, student and overall school support in continuing to improve the quality of education and life at Dacula High School. We are a tax exempt organization with the National PTA.

Q.
What's in it for me?
A.
As a Miss Dacula Representative you will have the opportunity to represent the City of Dacula as an Honorary Ambassador of the city to promote Dacula during the Elisha Winn Fair, Dacula Christmas Tree Lighting, etc., and be recognized during City Council Meetings. Be prepared to see yourself in local newspapers and on television as you are captured representing Dacula, volunteering at the Gwinnett Children's Shelter, supporting our Gwinnett Special Olympic Athletes, etc . Most importantly  be prepared to have the most exciting year of your life as you experience the Miss Dacula Family and all that it offers: friendship, leadership and the opportunity to leave a legacy and make a difference in your community.

Q.
What do you look for in a Miss Dacula Representative?
A.
We are looking for young ladies who are confident, personable, outgoing and most importantly a positive role model for the young people in our area.

 Q.
Do I have to compete in talent and photogenic competiton to win the crowned title?
 A.
NO!  Talent competition takes place after the contestants compete in the gown portion of the pageant and the score sheets have been passed to the auditors.  Talent and photogenic competitions are strictly optional and have no weight on who is crowned to represent Dacula for the year.
Q.
Can I compete in just the optionals without being in the pageant?
A.
No.  The optional competitions are in addition to the actual pageant and are provided to the contestant as a means to express herself.
 Q.
Do I need an expensive "pageant gown" to compete?
 A.
NO!  A Miss Dacula needs to possess inner beauty and confidence  not an expensive gown.  Our thoughts are if you need a fancy gown to feel confident then by all means feel free to purchase one but it is not necessary.  Since we are looking for role models the only suggestion is that you wear a gown that is age appropriate.
 Q.
This is my first pageant ... what do I do?
 A.
No worries!  We have free workshops for the contestants that help prepare each contestant for the areas of competition.  We recommend bringing a camcorder to the rehearsals to film what is going on so that your contestant can practice at home.  The director is always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have and will be able to guide you accordingly.
 Q.
Do you use comparative judging?
 A.
NO!  We believe that every contestant competes against herself,  and therefore do not use comparative judging.  If we have 5 contestants who earned 10's from the judges than all 5 contestants receive the 10.
 Q.
How do you handle a tie?
 A.
Since the Miss Dacula Pageant Program is looking for young ladies who are confident, outgoing and personable, we break the tie with the personality score.  If the tie cannot be broken then we give out two awards.  If a contestant earned it, she should have it!  Yes, we have had a tie in previous years and awarded two trophies in each division.  The girls are worth it!!

 Q.
Why do you give back the judges score sheets?
 A.
Our judges write comments on their score sheets because this allows the contestant to know exactly where her strengths and weaknesses are and how to make a plan to strengthen her weakness.  We feel it is extremely helpful for a contestant to know how she did in order to know where to mark areas for improvement. YOu may pick up your judges' score sheets right after the pageant.
 Q.
Why does Miss Dacula Sweetheart get such a big prize package compared to the other queens?
 A
Since the Miss Dacula Pageants are the sole fundraiser for the Dacula High School PTSA we want to encourage everyone to raise as much financial support as possible and therefore to honor the young lady who raised the most support she receives the Miss Dacula Sweetheart title.  She is included in the activities and appearances with the other queens during her reign.
 Q.
What is the Miss Dacula Sweetheart Princess Division?
 A.
To honor the contestant who raised the most financial support (at least $150.00 over the entry fee) for the Dacula High School PTSA in her age division we have developed the Princess Division.  This contestant will receive a tiara, banner and trophy,  and will appear  as the Miss Dacula Sweetheart in appearances during their reign.  All Miss Dacula Sweetheart Princesses attend the Miss Dacula Pageant Saturday night and are recognized on stage together. We will then announce which princess is actually the Miss Dacula Sweetheart at that time.
 Q.
What is the Miss Dacula Rose Award?
 A.
Contestants who raise $150.00 or more in financial support (beyond the entry fee) will be recognized during the coronation ceremony with a rose and presented with a special gift from the Dacula High School PTSA and Administration.
